Why add more lefties?

l think it is a good move. Yes, it gives them lots of left-handed bats, but that is ok. A lot of teams are looking for LH bats, so it does not hurt to stock up and maybe trade later.

Ibanez has been a steady player over the years. His production has been pretty consistent and he is a solid fielder. l do not know why more teams did not go after him.

Honestly, I'd rather have Ibanez and another $10 mill player than a single $20 mil Mark Teixiera.

l dont get this move at all.ur right they def needed a right handed bat.i think they hit the panic button when the mets made these moves n felt pressured to get another bat to go aginst this pitching of the mets.they could have gotten a better Of that fits the system better l think than Ibanez..one thing l do understand tho is there really is no power left handed pitcher in the NL East except Johan Santana

l am not sure why the Phillies made this deal. l do not think they needed him as much as they are paying him. l guess they might have picked him up for insurance issues in the outfield. l would have thought they would try to get Burrell back before they tried to get Ibanez. Sure, he is a good player, but he is on the decline and on his last legs.

l think its a great move. Ibanez is a good solid player who doesnt cause trouble and just does his work. and he is a bargain because he can hit and play the field well, l think this is a great move

Raul Ibanez is not your typical left-handed hitter. Last season he had a .305 avg. against left-hand pitching. Granted the Phillies need a right-handed bat off the bench; but the signing does pose the question, will the Phillies trade Jenkins or Stairs?

Actually, it was a very good move for the Phillies. Ibanez was the best option available, with the exception of Manny. While it is true that the Phillies will be adding another left handed hitter to the lineup, Ibanez has always hit well against left handed pitchers. Last year he hit .305 against left handers with a OBP .371, SLG .497, & OPS .869. He hit .288 against right handers & all of his other numbers fell short of what he was able to do against left handers. A good move for the Phillies & he will be a fan favorite.

l agree that adding another lefty is not the greatest move but Ibanez has been very productive (123, 105 and 110 RBI's) the last three years for a mostly poor Seattle Mariner team. That being said he could be a boost for the defending Champs. The other option to replace Burrell as far as I've heard was inhouse with Geoff Jenkins, he is left handed as well.

l think its a stupid move bcuz they dont need another outfielder, the have already have there guys they need. But theres nothing wrong with alot of lefties, especialy alot of switch so they can see the ball easier. But l think they dont need him and thats why its a stupid move

WHY NOT.

The main reason is that you get similar production that you got out of Burrell, granted from the other side of the plate, for a price that is much less than what Burrell is asking for. You get better defense than you got with Burrell and you are still saving money to load up on other mid-level free agents. l would rather see them go 10 million per year to Ibanez than go 14.5 a year to Burrell and leave the bullpen short.or the starting rotation short.
