No, the hold important, but there is more pressure in the ninth. If you blow the lead in the 7th or 8th, you still get to hit. If you're on the road, you do not get another bat if you fall behind in the ninth.

There is a difference in closing out a game and saving it for the winning pitcher verses holding the lead for the closer. You can have multiple holds in a single game but you can only have one save. This is why the hold category is separate from the save category and l believe both are needed as a confirmation of the outcome of the game.

l think they should revise what it takes to get a save. This coming in the ninth with a three run lead, giving up three hits and a run and getting a save is ridiculous.

No. A save occurs when you get down to 3 outs to end the game. If you come in from the guy holding the game, and you inherit runners that are within 3 runs of the score. That is where the word save comes to play.

The save is OVERRATED. A pitcher comes in the 9th inning with no one on base and is asked to get 3 men out. The more difficult role are the relief pitchers who are asked to pitch a couple of innings(6th, 7th or 8th) and may come in to the game with runners on base.
