Not sure about the throat but l found that link. Also there is this show called 'sports science' on the discovery channel and they had an episode where a pitch hit a pretend players helmet and it put a serious dent in it. They said if they were not wearing it they could have died.

Many people have been seriously injured by being hit, i;m not sure about deaths though.
But i'd have to say you would most likely die after being hit with a max of 40mph baseball in your throat

That actually happened to the home plate umpire during game 6 of the ALCS this past season. He left the game. but l do not know what happened to him after that.

To answer ur question: Imagine getting hit in the throat by a hammer. There r a multitude of soft tissue injuries, cricoid cartilidge damage & even trachea damage. Severity would depend on speed of pitch, the angle at which the ball hit & the physical characteristics of the players neck. We can only speculate because there r so many variables to consider.

Players & umps & even fans r far more likely to get a piece of broken bat hitting them. MLB is addressing that this off season. The flap that umps & catchers wear came from Steve Yeager getting stuck in the throat by a chard of broken bat.

Many players have died from line drives or shattered bats, however, there is at least one (and probably more) that died from a pitched ball. This was a game between high school kids. l would imagine however, that there is been at least one pro death. Kids name was Henry Carter, and he got hit in the head.

Chances are you would have plenty of soft-tissue damage and a major sore throat for weeks.
Oh, and you would get bragging rights saying that you survived a 90+ mph fastball to the noggin.

The only baseball fatality from being hit by a pitch was 1920: Ray Chapman. Because of his death we have very strict rules about the baseball, which not so coincidentally is the true cause of the dead ball era.

It'd probably kill you, and you really do not want to get hit in the nuts either, cup or no cup.
