Look, I am a Red Sox fan from Boston and l do not wanna sound bitter about the Mark Texiera signing by the Yankees, but did not they already have a great team? Did not they just spend a billion dollars on a new stadium? Did not they just spend hundred is of millions of dollars on 2 pitchers? Do not they already have the highest paid player in the history of the game (A-ROD)?
Congrats to the Yanks for adding another big money player but what, if anything, can baseball do to change the competitive balance so that teams can have an opportunity to try to win without the Yanks scooping up all the big guys because they have an unlimited money supply? l know my team is also very rich, but still nowhere close to the Yanks who could probably still add 2 or 3 more players to multi million dollar deals.
l try not to let these things bother me anymore because it is what it is, but enough is enough already.

Sawx do the same thing as the Yanks these days. Personally, when they let Giambi go, l was hoping they'd give Shelly Duncan a chance at 1st base.
What can be done? Salary cap. There should be one. But, hey, throwing money around does not win championships. Yanks have not won since 2000. So, do not give the Yanks 120 wins and the Title yet.

Do not bash the Yankees, they just paid 26,000,000 to major league baseball in Luxury taxes. They keep the other teams afloat.

You're right. But it is not to say the Red Sox or Mets (my team) do not spend either. The Yankees even go more overboard though. The same way how we may view the Yankees is the same way how the Royals or Pirates may view our teams ''financial situation'' though.
Do not be so easy to hand the Yankees ''120 wins & a championship.'' What is the one thing the Yankees have not addressed? Their bullpen. They've done nothing to make it stronger. That is the Red Sox & Rays strongest points. As a Mets fan, l can tell u first hand that a good bullpen is equally as important as a good rotation.

The Yankees shed 70 million in salaries in Abreu, Giambi, Mussina & Pettite.

They've added CC (23 million), Texeira (22.5 million), Burnett (16.5 million) & Swisher (5.3 million). That is 67.3 million.

So technically the Yankees have still spent less annually on players than they had shed in payroll with their own free agents. This is how Steinbrenner & Cashman saw it. They did not see this as an opportunity to spend less. People do not recognize that some of the most expensive Yankees were free agents this off-season. Still though, it does not necessarily excuse the ridiculous financial situation of this league. Eventually they will be some sort of salary cap system like the NBA in the MLB.

Die hard yanks fan here. One thing u have to realize is that payroll has never predicted success especially a world series win. The AL champs were the Rays this past year & their payroll is nothing to write home about. Red Sox fan, do not start to sulk because u could not get Texiera, ur team is doing fine without the biggest MLB names. The guys u have in ur farm program r coming up & playing great ball. The Yankees have great prospects as well, but it just so happens their guys have not matured quite as fast. Also, when u sell ur stadium out for four years straight at 55k seats u should not be repremanded for spending. The Marlins have such fair weather fans & cant even sell half the stadium & for them its an endless cycle. If fans cannot support their team when they r down & out, they should not be the first ones running their mouth about a new deal or a world series. In closing, be happy ur a legitamate fan..oh ya & l cant wait till the yanks do it this year lol.

The game does need a salary cap. l can not imagine what it would be like rooting for the Royals, Pirates, Reds, or Brewers knowing they will always be out spent. You go Mid-America, Here is one Met fan that wishes you well.
