l was watching on ESPN before and they were projecting Melky to be. Swisher is had plenty of experience at playing both CF and 1B, so I am sure the intention was to acquire him for his versatility. He is owed 22 million over the next 3 years which is pretty expensive for a utility sub so l figure this may be the plan. If he is a sub though, he may fill in for one of the three OF/DH free agents they will have in Nady, Matsui and Damon next season.
I am not a Yankees fan. I am a Mets fan. But l follow up on all news throughout baseball. l expect the Yankees to try and trade Melky for Cameron with the Brewers though. The Brewers will have to re-evaluate their level of competitiveness without CC and possibly Sheets, along with Torres. Melky would help save money and build for the future.
Swisher is low batting average has to be a concern. From the White Sox perspective, it was a salary dump. l read an article on MLB.com that said the Yankees may look to trade Nick Swisher to the Giants with this Texeira signing. That'd be an interesting move. Than they can try to use some of what they get in that move back to trade for Cameron. The free agent market is pretty dry for OF's. Maybe the Twins would look to do a swap of Cabrerra and Gomez and other prospects. At least he is adequate defensively.

It is a problem - for all the money they've spent, they still do not have a real center fielder and it is a critical position. If they go out and sign one, it means they will be carrying six (or is it seven) outfielders, and getting a guy who is only a part timer in the position would leave them with a real weakness.

My guess is, they look to trade someone and get a real center fielder. Aaron Rowand has been rumored to be available.

l do not really follow the Yankees so l am not sure.

However, l am lifelong White Sox fan & you're lucky to have gotten Swish from us. Although his average looks really bad on paper, he always has long at bats tiring out the pitcher, & alot of walks hence his very high on base percentage.

He is also a very likeable guy, he was one of the fan favorites here in Chicago. Not to mention, he is known as a stud with the ladies. (Not kidding)

l have a feeling Swisher will either be a utility player or the Yankees put Matsui out in left (or right) and maybe Swisher at DH

there is one problem and that is Damon l have read a couple of articles that the yankees are going to trade him to a team who can give them a good offer and one of those teams can be the san francisco giants.
