They're close to signing Derek Lowe to a 3 year deal at 14-16 million per year with a 4th year vesting option. So what this writer is insisting is correct. It is not effecting us. This is a mess the Mets owners will have to deal with. But they're billionares. They have plenty of other investments besides baseball. The Mets r a mixture of investment & enjoyment to them. They've spent on K-Rod. They're willing to pay Putz 5.5 million as a set up man this year, along with 9.1 million on a team option they will likely pick up for next season. This is while knowing the economy is sluggish. Their new stadium should make them plenty of profit though. They might get back some of that money through lawsuits, but it will take a while. But they've shown all indications that it is not effecting this team. Some people may think it is not why the Mets have not pursued Manny who Omar wants, but ownership is reluctant to have him be a Met as a person. They said they could have had him for a couple mid-level prospects at the deadline last off-season (i.e. Bobby Parnell, Nick Evans) with the Red Sox paying the remainder of his salary, but they turned that down. Personally, l thought that was not wise because he would have helped them get into the postseason (even as a rent-a-player). The compensation they'd get back from him if they chose to offer him arbitration & not re-sign him would have been as good as Bobby Parnell anyway.

im not sure, but good thing Wilpon isnt going to sell the team. The Mets said it wont effect the team

It sounds like they are ok for now. l think worst case scenario is they sell a portion of the team but keep controlling interest.

From what I've heard on local radio, and read in the papers, it seems like the Mets as a baseball team are completely unrelated to Sterling, the company owned by the Wilpons that lost all the money. For now, it looks like the Mets are fine. After all, they did just sign K-Rod, and it looks like they may get Derek Lowe. Plus, the new ballpark is going to make money hand over fist for the Wilpons and hopefully get that money back fairly soon.
