Is it time that Major League Baseball enacts a Salary Cap

WOW this is the most Original question l have ever seen. l know that l have not seen it here about 20 times in the last two hours, and certainly not 5 times on this page alone!!!

Only if its time to completely destroy pro baseball in america as we know it. The only people that benefit from a salary cap are the teams owners. Picture a team that is in contention for the playoffs. All they need is to trade for that one big bat or top notch starting pitcher. But because there is a salary cap they can not get that player and their shot at postseason play goes swirling down the drain. If you really stop and think about it, a salary cap is a horrible idea.

yes, if they dont every kid thats 15 & under will either end up liking the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets or Cubs because that is ALL THATS ON TV. It seriously ruins other fan bases. How can u learn about the game when there is the same 5 teams on tv every single week? l personally wont even watch a game if those teams r playing. Im sure others feel the same way. It just turns u away from the game. l bet u if u asked any retired player thats 60 years old or older they will tell u that baseball is being ruined.

with the new depression here, the yankees go bankrupt in less than 3 years

why the cheaper teams still wo not sign anyone and the players will just get their money up front

No. The MLB needs teams like the Yankees to function. You either hate them or love them, & that means they will sell tickets. MLB is a business & a salary cap would change them game drastically & turn a lot of people off. Look at the NBA, teams r forced to stars & forfeit seasons in order to get Lebron - ruining the competition - which is why there is such a clear top tier - not surprisingly teams that r not dumping contracts for cap space. The parity in the MLB sans salary cap is far better than the NBA. Teams have proven to disappoint with large payrolls & achieve success with lower ones. Until a team finishes with a .931 winning percentage (Celtics right now) & wins six straight titles with little competition, l believe that a salary cap will hurt more than it helps.

Yes, & this is coming from a fan of the Mets, the 2nd richest team in the big leagues. There needs to be a level playing field in baseball, & l am not just referring to the Yankees outspending everyone else. There r teams like the Marlins, Pirates, Royals, etc. who constantly cut payroll just for the benefit of the owners. There should be a minimum & maximum amount a team can spend per season. Maybe 75M minimum & 150M maximum. A salary cap would easily level the playing field in MLB & make the sport better for smaller-market teams.
