l think he should be a starter. One: he gots great stuff. Two: He is going to be a #4 starter so there is not any pressure on him. Three: l heard he has great mechanics and is not prone to injuries(besides the occasional elbow problem). However, if Rivera gets to be too old to be effective, l think he shpuld go back to the bullpen

l don't. Rivera is in the twilight of his career when he retires, Joba can step in the closer role without missing a beat. He strengthens the bullpen right now and when Rivera retires, no need to find a closer. The Yankees have enough starting pitching. It is work wonders of John Paplebon in Boston. He was a starter in the minors. l say keep him in the bullpen.

There is no way Joba should not be a starter. As a reliever, his innings will be far less than as a starter. A guy with his arm should pitch as much as possible. Besides, the Yankees had a good bullpen last year ( l think 5th in ERA) and Rivera had one of his best years in 2008. Relievers are far easier to develop than starters, and cost less. But still,150 innings of 3.30 ERA is more valuable than 70 innings of 2.00 ERA.
