l do not consider a player ''done'' after 1 bad year. A-Rod had a bad year - for A-Rod- last year and no way do l consider him done.

On the other side, l do not consider Cliff Lee or Brad Lidge great after 1 great season.

IMO it takes at least 2 consecutive seasons of either great or bad years to tag a player as great or done.

Look at the 2005 lowell and the 2006 lowell and you will see

they can get there contract again if they are healed, or make a come back. some teams wont even take the contract away in the 1st place if they think youll recover. my brother got red shirted in college, but he still has his place on the team even though he got tommy john surgery.

It is easier to judge players after one season in baseball than any other sport because the season is so long, going through so many games. Players work through injuries, battle through slumps, etc. While they can have a down year, a bad season is more likely an indicator of being 'done' than in any other sport.

That said, there r often many mitigating factors.injuries, getting out of shape (see Andruw Jones), or adjusting ur game to make up for the onset of age. That last is the big one, especially for pitchers. Hitters might adjust their batting stance to get them around more quickly on the ball, but that takes far less than adjusting the way u pitch. Yet many pitchers, once they get into their mid-30s, must either adjust their pitching style, or come to term with the fact that their career is over. That adjustment might take anywhere between 1 to 3 years before they're comfortable again. A good example of that is Barry ZIto. l know it is painful for Giants fans, but he started showing vast improvement towards the end of the season this year. l would not be surprised to see him make a very successful comeback next year.

No, players definitely have bounce-back seasons. For example last year chone Figgins of the Angels had a horrible injury-ridden season but he is young and versatile and his career is not going down the tubes. He just had an off year.

l completely disagree with this statement. There are plenty of players who have come back after a bad season and redeem their career.
