l dont believe this. The Yanks got Teixiera along with Sabathia and Burnett! This is a challenge thrown to the Red Sox is face! In my view the only way the Red Sox can counter is to trade for Peavy.l know he has a no trade clause but maybe they can work things out? God save the Red Soxs.
If the Red Sox are willing to pay $51M just for the right to talk to Dice-K why not half that amount to the Padre is owner (who needs cash for his divorce) plus just one prospect for Peavy?

Several reasons why this wont happen. First is as u mention.Peavy has a no trade & has shown no inclination to waive it for an American league team. His preference is to stay in the NL & he can force that scenario.and likely will. Next is the asking price. Did u see the packages of talent they have turned down already? They would demand a package that would have to include likely 3 of these 4 players:Masterson, Buckholtz, Lowrie & Ellsbury plus at least one other high end prospect just based on what they have rejected so far. They have a pretty good pitching staff with plenty of very good young arms, why give up so much talent? If they decide to make a move it has to be for a bat to protect Ortiz, that is where they struggled last season, not pitching. They may play the waiting game & try & grab Holliday when the A is make him available this season, it would cost them less in terms of talent than what the Padres r asking for Peavy (the A is like very young high end talnt so they can develop them at low cost, they r inclined to avoid the guys who r closing in on arbitration years).
Plus they shouldnt do something stupid to counter the Yankees, they were better than them last year anyways & Burnett is a candidate to get injured (he has had 2 healthy seasons, his 2 contract years.just a fact) & CC owns an abysmal 10+ ERA in the playoffs. These signing look great on paper but the Sox will rightly take a wait & see approach, they can make a mid season deal if they need to.

You named the biggest problem in a trade for Peavy: his no-trade clause. He is said that he does not want to leave the NL. Convince him otherwise, and you're okay, but it is the convincing him to leave that is going to be hard.

The Sox do not need Peavy. Sure it would help, but they already have 3 aces in the staff( hopefully a healthy Beckett, Dice-K, & Lester.)Plus they have the option to add Masterson to the rotation again. Yeah, l know it sucks that they got Tex, but right now the most important thing would be for us to sign tek, or make a trade for Salty(you know who l mean, l just do not know how to spell his name). Currently(thanks to those Yankees) Cash is gone.
Even if they offer all the money in the world, Peavy still might not be a red sox. He has a no trade clause, & the Sox would need to come up with a great deal for peavy in order to sign him.

To whoever said Red Sox do not need Peavy, they are wrong. Who are the Red Sox gonna rely on Wakefield? The same Wakefield that can not pitch in the playoffs. The same Wakefield that need a special catcher and by the way is always injured. They need to get a 4th starter and either put Wakefield on the DL, put him on the bullpen, or flat out release him. He wastes not only one but two roster spots including the backup catcher position.

l am not sure but l think Peavy wants to stay in the National League. Of course money talks and if he has any indication of moving to the junior circuit l am sure the Yankees will out bid anyone.
