The worst thing about it is that the Yankers dont sign players because they need them, they sign them so that other teams wont get them. It also sets the stage for someone like, say, Julio Lugo to make 15 million a year, putting more than half the teams in baseball in the poorhouse.

The Yankees r run like a business. They need to create excitement so people will come to the ballpark & that their clothing & caps continue to sell.

They took a major risk spending so much money on there two new pitchers. Both have had arm issues in the past & CC (although an excellent 2008 season) pitches with a delivery that puts a lot of stress on his arm. It would not surprise me if both will spend considerable time on the IR in 2009. If they do not they will be up there in contention. l still do not think they r a run away in the AL East. The Rays r young & have strong arms & Boston is Boston. Both TB & Boston play the game like a team not a group of individuals. New York teams do not understand that concept.

The Yankees r lucky that the other NY team has been poorly managed spending money for talent but not creating a team or they would be doing more. Yankees have to be #1 in New York City.

Let them sign whoever they want. The Yankees are cursed and will totally crumble in time. They wo not win another world series again in our lifetime and they will be lucky to make the playoffs at any point. The Yankees, l agree, are HORRIBLE for baseball. Just because they're pronounced Jankees does not mean it is spelled that way. And it is spelled Yanquis in the ''Latin'' community, are you even Latin? And the Braves were going to offer 75 million for 5 years, the yankees offered 82 mil. They are not irresponsible, they have money coming off the books from last year, and they're spending on the right players to rebuild their team with young players in their primes. In the world there are haves and have nots, and the Yankees have.
