which is 16.5 million per season. It does not seem fair, he is not that good, he is always injured. What do you think?

l think he has what it takes to put up an ace campaign year. But as of rite now, he hasnt had a sub 3 ERA year. His fancy strikeout numbers are pulling the wool over the Yankee Owner is eyes. 16.5 mil per season for a guy who is prone to injury and will probably get you a 3.50 ERA at best at Yankees Stadium is not worth it.

This mite have been an attempt to prevent anyone else from getting him more than anything.

to be honest, no one is worth getting paid the millions they are getting paid in pro sports. the men and women in uniform serving and putting their lives on the line in Iraq are worth getting paid that much IMO.

Is any baseball player worth that kind of money? l am not a yankee fan, but i'm an avid basball fan. A.J. Burnett? What has he done so well that deserves 16.5 millon a year, nothing l know of, its insane. There has to be loads of incentives in that contract that wo not be honored if not accomplished. Things like this will soon be having fans taking out loans to go see a game. Not this fan.

No player is really worth the ridiculous sums they are being paid. However, in reality a player is worth as much as he can get. Nobody can predict if Burnett will stay healthy or what kind of a year he will have, but the Yankees were desperate for starting pitching and it was worth the gamble.

He can be worth this much money if he stays healthy. It will be hard to determine whether he is worth it or not until 2 or 3 years down the line. If he has 3 20 win seasons in a row with high strikeout numbers & a low ERA he will be well worth the money. If he is injured, like he has been in the past, this will another case of Carl Pavano. l believe the salary is partially inflated because the Yankees were desperate & they were also trying to keep AJ from other teams. l mean, the Yankees paid Pettite 16 million last year for a 14-14 4.54 ERA season. In comparison, if AJ only tops that slightly, he may well be worth it.

PS - l understand where people r coming from when they say that pro athletes should not make this much compared to doctors, soldiers, etc, but that is business. The Yankees make far more money than the people paying doctors & soldiers & r able to pay these salaries. It is all relevant to who is running the business. Would anyone be willing to pay 50% more tax a year to pay soldiers 50% more? It is just how the world works. It may not seem fair but is there anything that is fair? Really, by paying these players more money the Yankees r effectively paying more tax to the federal government that could be used to pay soldiers higher salaries. So maybe signing players for this much money is actually helping deserving employees also earn more money.

He is healthy and effective only in his contract year, so he will suck for the next 4 years and be good again in his 5th year.

If AJ can stay healthy & help the Yankees to some Championships in the next 5 years yes.It is a tall order to fill. l would say the Yankees need to win at least 3 World Series in the next 5 years.Draw close to 4million each & every year. With AJ & CC to each have 18 to 21 wins per season. It is possible but not very proabable. The Yankees will not recieve any sympathy from many baseball fans if it does not work. l do give them credit for actuly takeing money they recive & putting it back in the team.It is to bad that there is such a big money disparity in baseball.

No one is that good to be paid that much in any sport, especially with injuries that can happen.

No, not with Yankees. First of all, he is not a player u build around with. It means if he performs, he is not getting much attention as others. If he does not perform, fans & media will kill him & actually make tickets revenue worse.

Secondly, his track record of injuries & being too emotional & pitching not up to his standards make him a gamble.

Thirdly, 40 man roster of the Yankees, 36 of them r paid less than him. If u ask me, Mo & Wang & the likes of Posada in the line-up will contribute much more than him but being paid less or much less.

Finally, do u honestly to go out & watch Yankees play because AJ is on the mount? Probably one or two games in the begining of the season, l doubt the normal fans would like to watch even half of the games he is starting because of his attraction.

By the way, if he went to Braves to be an ace, l said he is probably worth 16 millions per year considering current market is going because the base Braves' fan will go watch him pitch because he will be the ace.

no, he misses 5 starts everytime he sneezes

No he is not worth 16.5 million a year he is always injured and has only had one season without an injury. Also he has never had his ERA under 3.00. He has only had one year with 15 or more wins. Burnett was is not worth 5 year 82.5 million.
