you have to give 100% credit to the steroids for all of his great stats.If that is true, then anybody could take roids and make it to the big leagues and have close to 500 hr's, 1,500 rbi's.Obviously Jose had a lot of natural talent and was good at baseball even if he was not juiced.The man had 462 HR is and 1,407 RBI is and 200 stolen bases and was 6'4'' 250 pounds.l mean, how much did steroids really help him anyways?If he hit a 500 foot home run, did roids make that ball go 500 feet?l mean, if he was not juicing, it would've gone 450 feet and roids added that extra 50 feet?l think too many people give steroids too much credit.Did the steroids give Jose that great build and physique?No they didn't.He still had to put his time in the weight room and WORK hard.It is not like you take a shot of roids and then 10 minutes later you look like a body builder.This guy still had to work hard.And he was a fast runner too.Are you telling me that steroids made him into a fast runner?I am a slow runner.l do not think roids would turn me into a fast runner, maybe an average speed runner.So, I am saying that before Jose took roids, he was probably already an above-average speed runner and they might have brought him up an extra notch.This entire argument can be used for all of the steroid power hitters, Bonds, McGwire, Palmeiro, etc.I am just singling out Jose for this.So, my question is.What kind of ballplayer would Canseco have been without roids?Would he have lasted 17 years without them?What would his career HR and RBl totals be?l think too much credit is given to steroids.

In Canseco is own book he admits he never would have made it to the Majors without steroids. Without them he probably would have been a good single A player. This is not me talking, it is him. So there you go.

If u think about it this way, the advantage MUST be big enough that so many players r risking their health & credibility for them.

l do not know for a particular individual if u can say 'this is the performance impact', but there is also a health impact that u can not discount. They help build muscle & recover quicker.

l know he hit 6 & 12 home runs when he was with the Cubs. Gets to Texas & the home runs start to increase. Could be anything, experience, atmosphere, money, coaches, personal life.

We do not know what factors change what productivity.

There are players that are immensely talented and only use steroids to enhance their natural talents. Then there are other players use the steroids as a crutch, without them they would not be the player they are. Jose Canseco falls into the latter category. He would've probably been a decent minor league player and nothing more.

There is one thing that we DO KNOW. The SKILLS of Jose caught the eyes of A LOT of Baseball scouts coming out of the MINOR LEAGUES when he weighed 185 pounds. That at the VERY LEAST tells me that he DID HAVE some LEGITIMATE God-Given ability out of the gate! xo
