Abner Doubleday, nobody knows exact ideas of when it was really created. It is said Greeks drew drawings of a baseball diamond many years ago. There is also a legend of Abraham Lincoln wispering ''do not let baseball die'' to Double day on his deathbed.

People: Abner Doubleday DID NOT INVENT baseball. There is no evidence that he ever even played baseball. The Abner Doubleday story was created as a marketing ploy to make baseball seem more patriotic. Doubleday was a hero from the civil war, so he was chosen.

Baseball evolved from earlier ball games such as Rounders & Town Ball. In 1845, Alexander Cartwright wrote out the rules of Base, as was being played by his team, the Knickerbockers. This was the first time the rules were codified, & the game would be recognizable to baseball fans today.

Abner Doubleday did not invent it. He was just one of the first people to start marketing it as a organized sport, but it was invented and being played in America long before Doubleday supposedly hit upon it.

l just researched this topic. All my resources said that baseball was developed overtime. Throughout the years, players adapted new habits and improvements. For example, catchers used to have a a centimeter thick glove. Now, we have a 2 inch thick glove. See what l mean?
