Griffey recently said, ''I am not going to retire'' because there are ''things l have to do''.........MMMMMMMMM! xo
I am sure winning a world title is one but what about the other?
Keep in mind that EVERYONE said that Jim Edmonds was ''Done'' early this year! Look at the egg on everyones face! xo

Nope.

Griffey is a shadow of the player he once was, talent-wise. There is no way he is going to catch Bonds.

l like to be optimistic but l do not see that happening.

Possible? Sure..Probable? Not likely.

At 39 years old with fragile legs, he is best suited to be a DH & in one of the more ''lefty friendly'' parks like Yankee Stadium. Two things weigh heavily against him, however. 1) AL Pitching, especially in the East and, 2) Even in a ''best case scenario'' of 35+ HR a year, he is still going to need 4 or 5 seasons to rack up the 152 HR he needs. In today is economy, no team is going to sign him for that long of a deal & the Players' Union wo not allow him to take a significant discount.

If the Yankees were in a '80s type stretch of mediocrity & not under the pressure to keep up with the Red Sox, then they might give Junior a ''Danny Tartabull'' deal & stick him into the lineup at DH every day. Unfortunately, the game & the economy has changed.

Griffey would probably do well against NL pitching in a park like SF or Philly, but he will be lucky to get 300 ABs while playing the field every day.sadly, the numbers r against him.

Yes he can!! not his defense. but, if he gets to DH and rest his legs.. he will hit all year long.

I'd say no since late career lightning is so heavily tested for and banned by baseball .
Lostyo     Reply with quote
Hell yea he can. Let the Phillies get him he can hit in Burrell spot in the line up. That would be the greatest thing that baseball can hope for. Then they can forget about Bonds & the steriods. Then Howard will beat his record.

In a word.No!

It will be another twenty years, before you see any one come close to either of the records.let alone both of them!

First of all let me say that Griffey is a class act, a player that has given it his all, and is an asset to the game of baseball. With that being said l just do not believe he has enough left in the tank to accomplish what he would like to do and what many fans would like to see him accomplish. He just was not able to overcome the many injuries he has had throughout his career or he would be celebrating now those lofty goals we would all love to see him achieve.

Well, they found out what causes ''late career lightning'' and now they test for it.

l think Griffey can still contribute to a big league club, but he wo not challenge the record. A-Rod is our next hope to remove Bonds' name from the record books.

God l hope the Kid can do it. DH for a few years in a ballpark w/ a short porch, or play someone all year that has a short porch in right, he could do it.
Callaway     Reply with quote
As much as l love griffey l do not see him doing anything close to what he could do before..he is physically not there anymore, hu anything can happen.and just to be singed he is gonna have to take a major pay cut..

Griffey played his ass off ,he was a gamer,He dove for balls & crashed into fences & if he would not have done that probobly would have hit at least 100 more home runs than he has now, that is the only way he knew how to play the game, the way it should be played Griffey is a great Hall of Fame calliber player,But l think that he is done, his glory days r behind him, But that is what l think, What does Mr. Griffey think?Hey right now he is in the Hall of Fame hands down, there is no telling what he may do in the future.Griffey is a class act! Barry Bonds was roided out, look at his stats.

Sweetheart, have not u covered this subject once before?

l doubt it. Junior is way too injury prone. When was the last time he had a full season? Never?

Junior has 611 career bombs. He needs 151 home runs to tie Bonds. His career average per 162 games is 39 home runs. At that pace Junior would need 3.9 seasons just to tie. Since Junior has never had a full season in his career it just is not likely.
krystal     Reply with quote
He would need the wattage of a direct lightning strike in his protective cup, for that to happen. Not a chance.
Koenig     Reply with quote
Nice idea but Junior would have to stay healthy and that is the big question. He would really have to catch lightning and it would have to last three or four seasons.

It is a long shot but it would be great for baseball. At least Bonds would not lead in total career home runs and that would be a plus.
laser     Reply with quote
Unfortunately not he has to many injuries and l do not think he has enough time to catch Barry l wish he would than we would not worry about the record was tainted with steroids.
