Palmeiro qualifies for the 2011 ballot, & he is the smoking gun candidate, the one who was irrefutably nailed as a steroid user.

Mac? Hints, allegations, acknowledged use of a legal, available, permitted steroidal precursor, & some pretty sloppy testimony before a Congressional committee. But NO smoking gun.

So in 2011, when Palmeiro gets utterly slaughtered on the ballot return, a plurality of writers might (and this is just a guess) consider that Raffy, finally, is enough blood for the steroid era, & cast a fairer glance upon McGwire.

The other thing that possibly could improve his candidacy is chances is a series of interviews wherein he talks candidly about, well, whatever he did during the high times.

(And, note, this does not have a friggin' thing to do with Rose. STOP with these idiotic ''if X, then Rose'' claims. It is stupid, & such arguers should be embarrassed by such public displays of wanton ignorance.)

l do not KNOW anything about what McGwire may or may not have used, other than the androstenedione. More to the point, l do not care. Until MLB & the MLBPA enacted a collectively bargained ban in 2003 upon performance enhancing steroids, no one was breaking any rules. No rules, no breakage. And this really is an important distinction.

Canseco played pre-ban, so No, l do not care what he was doing. Baseball is a competitive enterprise that attracts competitive individuals, all of whom r always looking for an edge. Canseco found one, & used it. One may debate the wisdom or legality* or morality of his decision, but one cannot say he broke the rules, because he did not. His statistics stand, & will forever. Regards the Hall, that debate is over. The Joser stood on the ballot one time, in 2007, & received six votes, 1.1%, was relegated, & that was that. The writers delivered an excruciatingly clear verdict, that of No Way Jose. l do not have a dispute with this. l do not think he was a Hall-class player, & that has nothing to do with his admitted steroid use or his many off-field antics. The writers, some of them, probably vested such things into their votes; fine. l may not agree with their reasonings, but am in accord with the outcome.

SInce he got on the juice he destroyed his career. l thought that year that McGwire & Sosa were neck to neck in the home run contest was the greatest thing for baseball. Well obviously as more stars from the steroid era become eligible for the Hall of Fame we will find out whether or not the writers are going to put them in. Personally, l do not think Mark McGwire deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. There is almost no doubt that he was juicing almost his entire career. You do not go from the skinny Mark McGwire in 1988 to the totally ripped Mark McGwire who hits 70 homers in a season in 1998 without some kind of steroids.
