They gave Barry Zito all that money back in 2007. l knew it was dumb back then, and l wondered why they even signed him in the first place. If they did not sign him, they would have all that money back, and they would be in the hunt for CC Sabathia. They would have a good chance of getting him too, since Vallejo is relatively close to San Francisco. Then they could have had Lincecum and Sabathia in their starting rotation. What do you think?

the giants can still offer CC more than 100 mill too. yes everyone with eyes can see the zito was a huge mistake, at least the money part of it was. but hindsight is 20/20, fact it zito was the top left handed FA pitcher, so the giants had to pony up. other teams offered a lot of money as well although none offered more than 100 mill. whats done is done. as for CC he may be willing to take a hometown discount.
but the giants r consistently ranked in the tops of the majors in home attendance so money shouldnt be a huge concern for them.
personally l dont expect CC to sign here, & it wont bother me if he doesnt because l dont believe any pitcher is worth more than 100 mill since they play every 5th day.

ya l think they totally messed up with barry zito. l mean hes terrible. they might be going to get cc sabathia and thats a maybe but if they do they got two 20 game winners. sabathia and lincecum and they just got edgar renteria and bob howry. so im not sayn they will do really good next year but they will most likely do way better than last year.

they stink and not just cc thay could a a above average pitcher and hitter like jake peavy and some hitter

The Giants r on a thing that many sports franchises call, ''THE REBUILDING YEARS.''

Maybe after 2009 they will be pretty good enough to make the playoffs or win their division.

But with the Dodgers & the D-Backs coming up with some great young talent, it could be tough.

Unless you're team is as lucky as the Dodgers, which has a rebuilding year EVERY year but somehow has made the playoffs 3 times in the last 5 seasons now. Sure they did not win anything in those 3 postseasons, but making the playoffs gets ANY city excited & it generates LOTS of money for the following year because of interest.

But of course, as a Giants fan l am sure u do not want any kind of luck that the Dodgers have, but if u did, maybe you're team would have won a World Series already with some Dodgers luck.

Zito was a bad signing for that money, but they will still be pretty good in 2009. Sleeper team.

They can still make an offer to CC, which may be just around the corner. Some may think that the Giants have no money to pursue big names, Sabean was basically given a blank check for the payroll & told that if he wants to sign big names, he has to make an argument that they could improve the team immediately.
If SF doesnt get CC, then l wouldnt be surprised, but l also would not be surprised if they got CC & Dunn [though a Cain/Fielder trade makes more sense if CC comes to SF].

It does not really matter anymore because Zito is not even the giants top pitcher. If they did not have Lincecum or Cain then the giants would be in serious trouble. l say they just release Zito and pay him the money. That is a way he can help the team.
