Will the New York Mets make it to the playoffs next year

Yes, they have the bullpen all set now, because of K-Rod and Putz. If they had those two last year, they would have won the division.

As we all know at this point, once one thing goes right, something else is bound to go terribly wrong. God knows what it will be this season, now that the bullpen should not be as much of a worry.

They probably will miss out on the last day of the season again

No guarantees right now, but the NL looks like it is gonna be weaker than ever next year .. in other words, if anything the Mets will take advantage of that . right now they're definitely not a World Series contender .. they have too many holes in the pitching . Santana, Maine & Pelfrey in the rotation & K-Rod at the back of the bullpen r the only solid arms u have (Putz needs to prove himself worthy before l include him in the argument) . if the Mets can sign Lowe or Sheets & tack Perez on to the end of the rotation, they would be strong enough to compete for the NL East crown. but the bullpen still has a ton of re-shaping to do & they absolutely need a catcher .

Delgado proved himself worth another shot in 2009, but l would not expect more than .250, 25 homers, 100 RB l . good numbers, but not great numbers . they will need to replenish first base soon . Reyes is good at the top of the order & Wright, Beltran & Church pack the meat . the rest needs to be filled in, but in the NL, those top 5 r worthy of a good offense ..

all in all l say the Mets have a similar season to last year.. somewhere between 85 & 90 wins . only time will tell whether or not that is good enough to make the playoffs

Damn right they will. Not just will they make the playoffs next season, but they will win the NL East & win the World Series. l could even say that more confidently if we get Manny Ramirez who is market seems to be drying up little by little. Omar wants him, but the Wilpons do not which pisses me off. But l think he can convince them if LA winds up signing Dunn or Abreu. I'd also prefer to see them get rid of Castillo too(swapping him with Rowand who has a bad contract too would be nice). It'd give them the chance to sign Orlando Hudson too.The Mets won 89 games last season. Although they won some of them, the Mets blew 29 saves (11 were in the 9th inning) in 2008. l believe the Phillies had like 8, but 0 in the 9th inning. They may have won a couple of those games too though. Now the Mets got K-Rod & Putz. Adding a ground ball right-hander Sean Green was not bad either. No more Heilman, Blowenweis, Ayala, Wagner & Smith. If Sanchez can rebuild his arm strength, he could be effective. Feliciano is not bad either. And one of Parnell or Stokes wo not be a bad long reliever. Whether they will make the postseason or not still hinges on what moves they make to finish up this off-season. They need Derek Lowe. He rejected their 3 year/36 million offer, but they should be able to work something out because there appears to be no other teams who want him. Or who even have a rotation vacany who could afford him. The only other team may be the Brave, but they do not appear to be interested. He has a preference of pitching in the NL East too. The Mets also need another left-handed reliever. If Feliciano get hurts, l believe Adam Bostick is next on their depth chart. Trust me, we do not want that. Even if they're not willing to spend 3.5-4 million per year on Ohman, Beimel or D. Reyes, there is still decent cheaper options for 2-2.5 million on a one year deal available. That included Shouse, Guardado & Villone.

With the way how the market is playing out too, it is possible they may be able to sign 2 of 3 of Lowe, Perez & Wolf. If there is limited interest in Lowe on a multi-year deal, u know that means the market for Perez & Wolf is dry too. Both Perez & Wolf would be worth a 1 or 2 year deal. Wolf will probably get 2 year/16 million & Perez may only sign one year & test the market next season. That'd be a really good rotation. If they can not afford that though (they probably can not), signing Tim Redding, Paul Byrd or Odalis Perez r not bad options either. The Phillies may not have that same level of hunger next season. Most teams who've won the World Series from the NL (or had even made it) in recent memory haven't. All of the three past NL teams who were in the NL have not been back to the postseason (2 of 3 ended up sub-.500 the next season). 5 of the last 7 NL teams who've won the world series have not been back to the world series either. The Marlins have also dismantled their roster & l was happy to not see Peavy, Burnett or Furcal end up a Brave. Seeing CC, Texeira, Fuentes & Holliday (who nearly ended up a Phillie) out of the NL is nice too.

While the NL is weaker then the AL, the competition is more balanced. This will be an advantage to the Mets. The Brewers (who is bullpen were as much a mess as ours & nearly ''collapsed'' for a second straight year too) have loss CC, Torres & may lose Sheets. Also, l would say Putz is very proven. The question is more about his health. l see him remaining healthy though. K-Rod will bring a certain level of energy & pride back to the end of the game & winning. We all know the Mets r contenders. The question is will they be clutch down the stretch. Right now that is all on the shoulders of Omar Minaya up until Spring Training.Omar is given us plenty of big signings & trades over his 4 years here. l am also much more confident with Jerry Manuel as manager. The players respect him more & he led us through an incredible stretch during the summer just to get us back on top of the division for a little while. In between '06 & '08 though, the only year Minaya made significant bullpen upgrades & moves was '06. That is why we won. He brought in Oliver, Bradford, Sanchez & Wagner that year. That is 4 new relievers out of 7 following an 83 win season. He is already gotten us 3 new relievers (traded 3, one was a free agent, one has Tommy John) & will likely add one more. l read a rumor that the Rays r looking for a team to trade Bradford too because of his salary. They r not asking much back for him, but 3.6 million for one year of a solid set-up man is not a bad option. He was good when he was here. He should have been the guy the Mets held onto for 3 years at the same money rather then signing Schoenweis. You do not fix what is not broken.

Ask this again in August or September of 2009. We will find out by then.

They will make the playoffs for sure.. With K Rod and Putz it makes pretty much every game a 7 inning game for the opposing offense.. Their offense is one of the best and they will be hungry after the two meltdowns in a row
