is he really that good, or is it that he just plays in a huge market so everyone knows and ''loves'' him?l think he is a decent middle reliever but you take him out of that role, and his value plummets.not drops, but plummets.

l get tired of Yankees fans going overboard with him, but he is definitely worth a lot of hype. He is got nasty stuff & knows how to use it, & his numbers for the first season & a half r extremely impressive.

l think a lot of the hype comes from the fact that he had that monster start to his career during the 2007 season, when it seemed like he'd never give up a run. l think too many Yankee fans latched on to the belief that this run should immediately push him to the top of the list of pitching prospects. These same fans have also been desperate for good pitching news because of the struggles of Ian Kennedy & Phil Hughes, who along with Joba were supposed to create some kind of Yankee pitching triumvirate that would lead them to championships.

So Joba is worth hyping, but not quite to this degree.

Joba has good stuff, since l am a Sox fan l am not that crazy over him, maybe yankee fans see him replacing Roger Clemons or a great pitcher like Mussina, Honestly l do not know.But Remeber he is only a young prospect pitcher just barely hitting the MLB rotation, look what happened to Buckholtz for the sox, he was brought too early because of the No-hitter, & he got thrashed around.But at Jon Lester it took a year or two after he was placed in the MLB Rotation & now he is a duriable pitcher for the season.Also he threw a No-hitter.

l will be honest, I'd want him on my team. l would not trade him for Roy Halladay, but I'd be happy to install him as a #4 starter & SEE what he can do, not what he can potentially do.

Potential is a horrible word especially to a group of fans that r so hell bent on winning that they boo bad performances on a daily basis.

l think the best course of action (in this case for Yankee fans) is do not hype someone up. The big falls happen because people raise the expectation to a level that if not attained, is a colossel failure.

Just accept what is & perhaps realize that if booing was a way to boost performance, they'd call it cheering.

His college career suggests he could be very good..but he has had arm trouble at least once.

Anytime a pitcher throws 100 or 101 mph, & he gets the ball over the plate, he is going to attact attention. Put the kid in pinstripes, the attention is doubled.

He is 23. He has not done enough yet..a good guess is that he might be a 3rd or 4th starter & he might have a winning record.

If he does not have a winning record this year, or he gets injured, l would say he will quickly be traded or sent down. He does have ability but he should have a good head too.

He is no better than several other young pitchers in the game.Gallardo of Milwaukee, Liriano, Sanchez, with the Giants, Felix Hernandez.all could be better than Joba.

Its taken overboard because of the media in NY & how many years its been since the Yankees produced their own ace pitcher. People see Joba as a chance for the Yankees to have one of their own developed from the farm system into the majors like Pettite. We have seen how the free agent signings have had mixed results over the years & its clear in baseball that when a team builds from within, good results happen. Look at the Rays last year or Sox for the last few years. These teams sign a few mid range veterans & then build stars from within to have a good core team that plays well together, has no big egos & is young & energetic. With Joba, yankees fans & the media r in a frenzy because this is the first guy in a while that has potential to be a home grown star. He has great stuff & the potential to be a number 1 starter in a few years & the yankees fans & media r excited. No one knows what will happen, but its great when a guy like this comes along with so much talent & promise. Everything gets hyped up 10fold in the NY media so it makes it seem like the coming of christ when its more like the coming of the next Jeter, Pettite, or Posada hopefully. Go Yankees!!

wow these kinds of questions really have me worried about America and Americans. It would seem public schools are not even teaching the basics of 1 + 1 = 2 anymore. Joba has very good stuff. Scouts said he really only has one other guy in baseball who has that type of stuff. A kid called Felix Hernandez. l think its really impossible to disagree with just about every scout in baseball who agrees he is going to be something special, even red sox scouts.

He is really good, one of the top prospects ready for MLB. Any team would love to have 100 MPH fastball anytime and his fastball might be the best in the business at moment in MLB starting pitchers.

Give the kid a break. He has not been around that long. It is yet to be seen what type of pitcher he will be. As for us Yankee fans, we r just excited over this young player. Every team is fans do the same when they have a young guy come up. But because it is the Yankees all u Yankee haters have to make a big deal out of nothing.
