That sounds like a good plan. They were probably the 2 best pitchers for the Cubs during the last 50 years.

l know that Yankees did that with Dickey and Berra and l believe the Expos with Staub and somebody else but they were ''unretired'' when the relocated to Washington.

edit: The other Expo was Andre Dawson. Also, it looks like the Mets have ''unofficially'' retired their own #31 in honor of two players, John Franco and Mike Piazza.

I've been asking why Jenkin is number is not retired for years. He went into the Hall as a Cub & the Cubs ened their ''you must be a HOFer to have ur number retired'' when they retired Santo is number yet Jenkins still is not retired. In fact, they should have never allowed Maddux to wear it in the beginning anyway.

PS - the idiot who thinks of Jenkins as a ''coke head,'' where does that come from? He was in trouble for pot. At no point has he ever been publicly linked to coke. Just shows u most of the people here r uniformed idiots.

Maddog is a Brave. He is remembered as a Brave, no matter who he pitched for before he became a Brave or who he pitches for after. l am sorry. The other guy, fine.

Jenkins, yes, why did not they do it sooner.

Jenkins has a misdemeanor for pot..wow..he pitched through the Cubs good & bad years & his whole career is unblemished. From memory he had an incredible low ratio of walks to innings piched. l think it was around 30 walks in a season one year.

Maddox pitched 9 years plus for the Cubs. l can not see how his number should be retired..for the Braves ok, but a few years from now.

Why should they retire Maddux' #? He left them for money, and came back when he had nothing left.

He walked out on them, and did not do anything for them.

l think it should be retired for Jenkins... l am a Cubs fan & love them both. l do not get why Cubs fans are hating on Mad Dog for leaving the Cubs for the Braves, the Cubs did not want to pay him what he was worth & most of them are too young to remember that left the Cubs for the Rangers
